Responsibility
|
Before you
can be successful, you must understand what you are responsible for. This is easier said than done.
Can you honestly answer the question, "What am I responsible for?" At work? At home? To others?
To yourself? To be an effective leader, you must fully understand your responsibilities in each of these areas.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is easy to do. |

Courage
|
The word "courage"
is derived from the Latin root "cor", meaning heart. As hollywood bombards us with movies of heroism and
daring feats, many of you think that heart and spirit can only be found in places like
Tolkein's Middle Earth or in the far reaches of space where the battle against the Empire is raging. |

Credibility
|
While working as a manager at an HMO many years ago, I witnessed
something that I'll never forget. Having just gone through a merger, our new President held his
first all hands meeting. During this meeting, he was asked about layoffs, and basically said,
"Read my lips - there will be no layoffs!" The next day, as I walked into the office, I
was greeted by one of my supervisors who was in tears. The company was giving about 10% of the
employees their walking papers and were escorting them off the premises. Wow! |

Commitment
|
We all know what
commitment is, but how do we go about instilling it in others, or often ourselves. Commitment
begins with Passion, Focus, and Intention. Are you passionate about what you do? Are you
focused? Are you intentional? |
